Tarslab, run by Juanjo Ortiz and Jordi Blasco, is the digital laboratory of Tars Design, operating at the intersection of art and technology. Specializing in immersive environments and interactive audiovisual installations, they use light and sound as living materials that respond in real time to the space and the audience. Beyond their artistic work, they also design interactive, conceptual experiences for brands worldwide.
The Artwork: Umbral
Umbral is an abstract installation inspired by the memory of the former Convent of El Carmen and its cloister as a space of transit. Umbral translates the daily life of the Carmelite community into a language of light (action) and darkness (silence): a dot represents the individual; the line, their path; verticality, prayer; particles, community; and convergence, stillness. An endless cycle built through repetition and contemplation.
