LOHENGRIN is an opera production by Richard Wagner, premiered on August 28, 1850, at the Grossherzogliches Hoftheater in Weimar. This work, a romantic opera in three acts, addresses the mystery of the swan and the harshness of a knife, exploring Wagner's transition from Romanticism towards a modern musical drama of solitude and the impossibility of absolute faith. The opera is characterized by an ethereal orchestration that seems to hover above the mists of a powerful yet serene river, opening the continuity of German nationalism's sonic legacy. The production is presented at the Palau de les Artes Reina Sofía in Valencia and features direction by Damiano Michiletto, who interprets the libretto with a psychological treatment of the characters. The dramaturgy unfolds in scenes of incredible visual beauty and symbolism, which overwhelm and lead to reflection. The musical direction is by Sir Mark Elder, who conducts his first Wagner at Les Arts, alongside the voice of David Butt Philip, a current reference for Lohengrin, accompanied by the Irish soprano Jennifer Davis as Elsa, as well as two formidable wagnerian singers: Wolfgang Koch and Ricarda Merbeth.
