HD Substance is a key figure in electronic music with over three decades of experience as a DJ, producer, educator, and music journalist. He launched his solo project in the 1990s, shaped by synth-pop, EBM, and rave culture. After debuting on cult labels such as Geometrik and solidifying his presence on Elefant Records, he pushed the techno scene forward by founding the Atlas label, and currently co-runs the SUB tl record label alongside Leandro Gámez. His international presence has led him to play at iconic clubs like Berghain, Tresor, and Razzmatazz—a facet he combines with DIRECTORS, an experimental audio and IDM live show alongside visual artist Mahatma Bond.
